Biography

Joris Vreeke is a design, technology, and innovation specialist with over 20 years of experience spanning software engineering, user experience design, and digital product development. His work sits at the intersection of technology, creativity, and research, with a strong focus on building innovative digital experiences.

He is currently a Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin, contributing to EU-funded projects exploring the use of game mechanics and immersive technologies for cultural heritage. His work includes the development of augmented and interactive experiences for historically significant sites, combining storytelling, design, and advanced technologies.

Alongside his research, Joris is an experienced lecturer in programming and UX design, teaching both postgraduate students and professionals. His multidisciplinary background enables him to bridge technical development, design thinking, and user-centered innovation.

Teaching Experience

Joris Vreeke is an Adjunct Teaching Fellow at Trinity College Dublin, where he lectures programming within the Master’s program in Interactive Digital Media.

He has also taught UX Design at UCD Professional Academy, delivering applied, industry-focused training to professionals. His teaching emphasizes hands-on learning, combining technical skills with user-centered design principles to prepare students for real-world digital product development.

Industry Expertise

Joris Vreeke brings extensive experience in digital product development, combining deep technical expertise with leadership in design and innovation.

He spent several years at the ADAPT Centre in Dublin, where he served as Design & Innovation Lead, Senior Software Engineer, and Scrum Master. In this role, he led multidisciplinary teams in the design and development of rapid prototypes and digital applications, working closely with industry partners to deliver innovative, research-driven solutions.

His background includes full-stack software engineering, UX design, and agile project leadership, allowing him to oversee projects from concept to implementation. He has contributed to a wide range of digital products, particularly in web-based environments, focusing on usability, performance, and user experience.

Earlier in his career, he worked as an ICT consultant and developer across sectors including telecommunications, finance, utilities, and government, gaining strong experience in complex, large-scale systems. He also operated as a freelance designer and developer, further strengthening his ability to combine technical execution with creative design.
